A fresh take on the classic. On a thick, creamy white wool pile, fine sage-green lines trace open diamonds and zigzags, with small green blocks dotted along the way. A soft yellow fringe frames each end. It feels light, natural and very calm, like a Beni Ourain drawn in spring colours.
Why you'll love it
- Unexpected sage green that softens the classic black-and-white look.
- Open, airy pattern that keeps small rooms feeling spacious.
- Deep, plush wool that feels wonderful barefoot.
Style it
Pair it with natural wood, linen and potted plants in a living room or bedroom, or ground a light Scandinavian dining space.
The story behind it
Beni Ourain rugs take their name from a confederation of Amazigh tribes in the snowy Middle Atlas. Women wove them from the undyed wool of their own sheep as thick bedding and blankets for harsh winters. The dark lines and lozenges are a visual language passed down from mother to daughter, drawn from memory, so no two rugs are ever the same.

The heritage of Beni Ourain rugs
Beni Ourain is the name of a confederation of Amazigh (Berber) tribes living in the cold, high valleys of the Middle Atlas. For generations, the women of these communities wove thick, deep-pile rugs from the wool of their own sheep, rugs used as bedding and blankets during snowy winters as much as floor coverings.
The classic palette is the natural ivory of undyed wool, drawn with dark brown or black lines. Diamonds, lozenges and zigzags are the most common motifs; weavers worked them from memory, so no two rugs are identical and small asymmetries are a mark of the hand, not a flaw.
In the twentieth century, modernist architects and designers brought Beni Ourain rugs into European and American interiors, where their soft texture and graphic lines became a signature of mid-century and minimalist design.
