The most common mistake is a rug that is too small. When in doubt, go one size up.

| 9 x 12 | 270 x 360 | Large living room, dining table for 6 to 8 |

Room by room
- Living room: at least the front legs of the sofa and chairs should sit on the rug. Leave 30 to 45 cm (12 to 18 in) of floor between the rug and the walls.
- Bedroom: the rug should extend 45 to 60 cm (18 to 24 in) beyond each side of the bed. Queen bed: 6 x 9 or 8 x 10. King bed: 8 x 10 or 9 x 12.
- Dining room: chairs should stay on the rug when pulled out. Add 60 cm (24 in) on every side of the table.
- Hallway: leave 10 to 15 cm (4 to 6 in) of floor visible on each side of the runner.
Handmade sizes vary
Moroccan rugs are woven by hand, so they are rarely perfectly rectangular and sizes are never exactly standard. That is why every listing gives the real measured size in feet and centimeters. Tip: mark the rug's outline on your floor with painter's tape before you buy.
