Where Atlas tradition meets modern art. Thick, creamy Beni Ourain wool is the canvas; sweeping chocolate-brown and slate-blue forms are the brushstrokes – architectural, a little mysterious, and completely one of a kind.
Why you'll love it
- A true statement piece that anchors a living room the way a painting anchors a wall.
- Deep, cloud-soft shag of undyed highland sheep wool, warm in winter and naturally resilient.
- Earthy, grown-up palette that works with walnut, leather, bouclé and black steel.
Style it
Place it under a low sofa and a sculptural coffee table for a mid-century gallery feel, or let it soften a minimal bedroom with plaster walls and linen bedding.

The heritage of Beni Ourain rugs
Beni Ourain is the name of a confederation of Amazigh (Berber) tribes living in the cold, high valleys of the Middle Atlas. For generations, the women of these communities wove thick, deep-pile rugs from the wool of their own sheep, rugs used as bedding and blankets during snowy winters as much as floor coverings.
The classic palette is the natural ivory of undyed wool, drawn with dark brown or black lines. Diamonds, lozenges and zigzags are the most common motifs; weavers worked them from memory, so no two rugs are identical and small asymmetries are a mark of the hand, not a flaw.
In the twentieth century, modernist architects and designers brought Beni Ourain rugs into European and American interiors, where their soft texture and graphic lines became a signature of mid-century and minimalist design.
