A splash of Mediterranean sea for your floor. This kilim is woven in a vivid turquoise and filled with neat rows of tiny Berber symbols – crosses, arrows, diamonds and stars in pink, orange, green and ivory – all held inside a fine violet zigzag frame.

Why you'll love it

  • Instant energy – one rug turns a plain white room into a sunny, coastal retreat.
  • Easy-living flatweave that's light, reversible in a pinch, and simple to clean and move.
  • Woven by hand in the Atlas Mountains, symbol by symbol, on a traditional loom.

Style it

Pair it with whitewashed wood, rattan and terracotta for a Riad-meets-beach-house look, or use it as a bold runner-style accent in a hallway or bathroom.

The heritage of the Moroccan kilim

A kilim (in Morocco often called hanbel) is a flat-woven rug with no pile: the coloured weft threads are packed tightly over the warp to form the design. Amazigh weavers across the Middle and High Atlas have made them for centuries as floor rugs, blankets, tent dividers and saddle covers.

The flat weave favours geometry: bands, stripes, diamonds, triangles and small symbols arranged in horizontal registers. Patterns are passed down from mother to daughter and vary from one tribe and valley to the next.

Light, reversible on many pieces and easy to move, the Moroccan kilim is ideal for dining rooms, hallways and busy family spaces.
